Placement Policies

Travel Teams (BAYS)

Milton Soccer holds travel player evaluations every spring for players that will be registering for U11, U12, U13 and U14 age groups (Entering grades 5-8) in the Fall.  U9 and U10 teams (6v6) are not "leveled" or placed on teams according to their ability.  As players move to 8v8 (U11 & U12) and 11v11 (U13 & U14), team composition naturally changes and MTS "levels" the players.  These are not "tryouts", in the sense that everyone who registers on time will be placed on an appropriate travel team.  BAYS has many levels and every team is placed at a level where players can both be challenged and succeed.

Player evaluations are conducted by professional, external coaches that are unbiased.  Attending both days of evaluations yields a better evaluation, but one day is OK if players cannot make both days.  Please bring a ball and water.  Players will play small-sided games and will be evaluated on technical, tactical, athletic, and personality (attitude) characteristics.

Player and team placement is very much dependent on the number of players that register on time. Input is also sought from coaches who see the players every week.  This process is not perfect, but it has shown to work out over the long term.  If you have any questions, please direct them to Bob Chen bob.chen@umb.edu, Girls Coordinator), Bob Seeeney (sween32@verizon.net, Boys Coordinator), or Todd Ducharme (tcucharme@catzsports.com, player development).
